Meet Your Teacher: Huijuan 老师 lǎo shī

Hello, everyone! My name is Huijuan Chen. I am the Mandarin Chinese Teacher at Mando School. This is my third year at Mando. I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. 

I grew up in Shanghai, China, a big city in China. If someone asked me which city I would recommend for foreigners to visit I would say Beijing and Xian. Those cities are full of history and culture; it is the real China. I am a big fan of books; I read books on a daily basis! At the moment, I am reading a book called LAOZI. Chinese people say it is very suitable for middle-aged people to read this book. My dedication to Chinese teaching will ensure students at Mando have fun while also broadening their understanding of Chinese culture and listening and speaking one of the most ancient languages in the world. My students will be familiar with Chinese music, art, and calligraphy.

My daughters Stephanie (15) and Amy (9) speak Chinese at home. I love playing with them, reading books, and we enjoy practising our Kung Fu Fan every Sunday. We are all food lovers. Lido restaurant’s Dim Sum is the best in China town. Our favourite dish is xiaolongbao. My passion is thinking critically on how to better assist my students and familiarize my students with Chinese language and culture.
