Meet The Team: Su 刘苏

Hello! I am Su Laoshi, 36 year old. I am a native Mandarin speaker. I was born and raised in Northeast China before studying and working in Beijing for 15 years. I graduated from Renmin University of China (中国人民大学), with master’s degree in management. I was a top student academically. I am also fluent in English and Japanese, and have experience using English as a work language. Before I moved to UK,  I worked in HR for 8 years in a state owned company. I am a people person and a team player. I used to take charge of employee training, in which job I learnt how to make lesson plans and teach different people with different approaches.

   As a mother of two bilingual children, I have taught them to speak and read Chinese for several years. During 2020’s lockdown, I encountered the Little Mandarin Classes, and have been a Chinese teacher since then. I received training on how to engage children in class, how to approach learning with children of different ages, and how to integrate story-telling and the use of basic British Sign Language as a bridge to understanding in lessons. I have taught Chinese to children from preschool age up to KS2 through group learning and private lessons. It gives me a sense of achievement when I see the smiles on children’s faces.

I am always keen to learn new skills. I am currently teaching myself French and learning Chinese calligraphy and painting. I also enjoy going on nature walks and doing yoga. Learning is a lifelong process, for me and for everyone. I enjoy teaching as much as I enjoy learning.
